New shows announced: Salisbury Blues Fest, Boston Legends, Casino season starts April 1
Boston rock legends headed to Portsmouth: Bean Town produced a number of bands in the 1970s now cemented in the rock pantheon as bona fide legends, including the J. Geils Band, Aerosmith, and Boston. Members of those groups and others will join forces for the Boston Legends All Star Concert at The Music Hall in Portsmouth on Friday, March 18.
The show will present a super group featuring guitar god Jay Geils, harpist Magic Dick and bassist Danny Klein, all of the J. Geils Band; former Boston guitarist Barry Goudreau; drummer Joe Pet, formerly of The Joe Perry Project; and guitarist Doug Bell, front man of Bellevue Cadillac.
Lead vocal duties will be divided between guitarists Jon Butcher of the Jon Butcher Axis and Charlie Farren, formerly of The Joe Perry Project, as well as bassist David Hull, who has performed with The Joe Perry Project and Aerosmith. Butcher and Farren recently formed their own duo, which will release its debut CD in March.
The band will also include Sandy MacDonald of The Commitments; and child prodigy Desiree Bassett, who has played guitar with Sammy Hagar, Ted Nugent and The Uptown Horns, among others. The Fools, who formed in Boston in the mid-’70s, will play an opening set.
The show begins at 7:30 p.m. on March 18 at The Music Hall, 28 Chestnut St., Portsmouth, 603-436-2400, www.themusichall.org. Tickets are $45.50 to $55.50 (add $35 for a VIP pass).
