Political satire at The Music Hall

With the hubbub of New Hampshire’s first-in-the-nation primary behind us, it’s a good time to reflect on the political buffoonery that has transpired. And there’s no better way to do so than with comedy troupe the Capitol Steps, who will perform at The Music Hall in Portsmouth on Saturday, Feb. 4.

Formed 30 years ago in December 1981, the Capitol Steps consists of former Congressional staffers and other performers who satirize the atmosphere on Capitol Hill. They’ve recorded more than 30 albums, including their 2011 release, “Desperate Housemembers: Sometimes the Opposite of Progress is Congress.”

The 14th annual local performance will raise money for affordable housing development. Shows will take place at 5 and 8 p.m. at The Music Hall, 28 Chestnut St., Portsmouth, 603-436-2400, www.themusichall.org. Tickets are $45 to $35.
