Play reading series returns

Harbor Light Stage is diving into the fifth season of its Bold Face Play Reading Series with a contemporary work already considered a classic. The season begins on Monday, Sept. 20, with a reading of Edward Albee’s “The Play about the Baby.”

At times humorous, at others disturbing, the play is about a young couple whose innocence is tested when they’re visited by an older man and woman who have been scarred by history. The production stars locals Bill Humphreys, Carol Davenport and C. J. Lewis, as well as Portland actress Casey Turner.

The series continues with Edith Wharton’s “Ethan Frome” on Oct. 18, Liz Duffy Adams’ “Or” on Nov. 15, and Harbor Light’s “The Ragpicker’s Dream” on Dec. 13.

All the readings begin at 7:30 p.m. (doors open at 6:30 and reservations must be filled by 7:10) at the Kittery Art Association, 8 Coleman Ave., Kittery Point, Maine. Tickets are $10.
