Memorial Bridge and beyond: community dialogue focuses on connections

More than three dozen community members from Portsmouth and Kittery participated in a dialogue on the morning of Feb. 11. They discussed ways to ensure the new Memorial Bridge and the regional transportation system connect the two communities in a way that makes them “the best places to live, work and play for everyone.”

The dialogue groups will share their observations, findings and recommendations during a public meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 22, at Portsmouth City Hall. Presented by Portsmouth Listens and Sustainable Portsmouth, the community conversation is open to the public. Representatives from the Maine and New Hampshire Departments of Transportation also will be in attendance.

The 90-year-old bridge closed last year and the center span was removed earlier this month. Its replacement is scheduled to open in July 2013. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the City Council chambers at 1 Junkins Ave.
