Cilley to run for governor

Another Seacoast-area Democrat has thrown her name into New Hampshire’s gubernatorial field. Former state senator Jacalyn Cilley, of Barrington, officially announced her candidacy on Feb. 7.

Cilley is seeking to replace Democratic Gov. John Lynch, who is not running for a fifth term as governor. But first Cilley will have to secure the nomination in what promises to be a tight primary race. Fellow former senator Maggie Hassan of Exeter also is running for the Democratic nomination. On the Republican side, Ovide Lamontagne of East Manchester and Kevin Smith of Litchfield have entered the race.

Cilley served two terms as a state senator in District 6 and previously served on the House of Representatives. She lost her Senate seat to Republican Fenton Groen of Rochester in the 2010 election.

The state primary election is on Sept. 11.
