National economy shows improvement
The national unemployment rate has dropped to its lowest level in three years, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Through January, the unemployment rate had fallen to 8.3 percent, its lowest level since February 2009.
According to the Department of Labor’s latest report, the nation added 243,000 jobs in January and the unemployment rate declined by .2 percent. It was the 23rd straight month during which the nation experienced job growth. During that stretch, a total of 3.7 million private sector jobs have been added.
Democrats touted the report as evidence of the success of President Barack Obama’s economic policies over the past two years.
