Federal Cigar launches its matchbook poll

Federal Cigar has again launched its matchbook poll for New Hampshire’s first-in-the-nation presidential primary. This time around, voters can cast ballots at any of the store’s four locations in Portsmouth, Dover, Epping or Plaistow.

Federal Cigar has conducted its matchbook poll, called the Federal Forecast, for every presidential election since 1984. Each store is outfitted with “ballot boxes”—large paper lunch bags with the major candidates’ names and profiles attached. Voters simply drop a matchbook in their preferred candidate’s bag.

The poll will remain open through Jan. 5, and the results will be tallied on Jan. 6, just a few days before the New Hampshire primary on Jan. 10. In past years, more than 500 voters have participated in the poll. This is the first time Federal Cigar has extended the poll to its locations outside of Portsmouth.

Federal Cigar is at 22 Ladd St. in Portsmouth, 284 Central Ave. in Dover, 96 Calef Highway in Epping, and 4 Plaistow Road in Plaistow.
