Dover mayor leaves for Laconia

Dover mayor Scott Myers announced his resignation this week after accepting a job as city manager of Laconia.

The Laconia City Council voted in favor of hiring Myers on June 30 and immediately swore him into office. He takes over for the lakeside city’s acting manager, Pamela Reynolds. Myers resigned as Dover mayor days later.

Myers, who has lived in Dover for about 23 years, was finishing his fourth two-year term as mayor of Dover. His time presiding over the City Council was turbulent at times, as infighting among councilors often plagued meetings at City Hall. But Myers was respected by many and dealt with a number of significant issues in Dover, including the ongoing Cochecho waterfront development project. He also helped manage the city budget after Dover instituted a controversial “tax cap” in 2007.

Dover Republican Committee chair Chris Buck has reportedly expressed interest in taking over for Myers as mayor. Myers’ term would have expired at the end of the year. Municipal elections will take place in November.
