York voters approve police station

Voters in York, Maine, have approved a $6.8 million project to construct a new Public Safety Building. The design, construction and funding of the new police station were approved by a vote of 1,438-951 during a budget referendum on May 21.

All articles related to the town and school budgets passed, as did 12 ordinance and special referendum questions. Scott Florentino and Kinley Gregg won seats on the Board of Selectmen with 1,113 and 1,029 votes, respectively.

Voters also approved a $1.6 million project to construct a Route 1/York Beach Connector Road, which will connect Route 1 to Ridge Road. It is intended to improve emergency response times in most areas. It passed by a vote of 1,390-1,010.

The only measure on the ballot that did not pass was a proposal to appropriate $200,000 to purchase and restore the Mount Agamenticus Schoolhouse, which failed by a vote of 1,674-685. A total of 2,467 ballots were cast.
