Shaheen joins 'Moderate Dems' group

New Hampshire’s senior senator has joined a reconstituted group of moderate Democrats in the U.S. Senate. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen joins the Moderate Dems group with the goal of seeking common-sense solutions to the nation’s problems.

The group is chaired by Sens. Tom Carper of Delaware, Mark Udall of Colorado, and Kay Hagan of North Carolina. Those three and Shaheen are also co-chairs of Third Way, a Democratic policy group.

The Moderate Dems’ goal is to work with Senate leaders and President Obama’s administration to craft solutions for pressing issues like the economy, the national debt, education reform, energy policy, and fiscally responsible spending. The group will meet every other Tuesday before the Democratic Caucus lunch.

In a press release, Shaheen indicated that the Moderate Dems will strive to “cut through the rhetoric” and work with the Republican-led House of Representatives to find consensus on a range of political issues.

“There is much common ground to be found that can deliver results without sacrificing our core values,” she said.
