Rochester offers compost bins
Backyard composting bins are now available to Rochester residents at less than half the retail cost. A compost bin and how-to guide, normally valued at a combined $100, are available to residents for $45 through March 18.
Rochester’s Public Works Department is participating in the sale as part of its Earth Day 2011 celebration. About 25 percent of the average household’s waste consists of yard trimmings and kitchen scraps that can be composted, according to the city.
Made from all recycled plastic, the black bins are 33 inches tall and 35 inches wide—large enough for use by a family of five. For more information on the product, visit www.earthmachine.com.
Systern rain barrels and kitchen scrap pails can also be purchased through the city. Order forms are available by calling 603-332-4096.
