Burlesque benefit show for local artist
A number of local artists, musicians, performers and restaurants will come together on Friday, May 20, at the Portsmouth Harbor Events and Conference Center for a show to benefit local artist Ali Goodwin, who is battling breast cancer.
Called “Alive! A Swanky Night of Art, Music, Food and Burlesque,” the evening will feature music from Rollinsford’s Penhallow, an instrumental duo including guitarist Jonathan Blakeslee and drummer Jill Robinson. Additional entertainment will come from the Lady Luck Burlesque Troupe, featuring dance, theater and comedy. Rob Connelly of WXGR radio will conclude the night with a dance party.
Several area restaurants will supply hors d’oeuvres, including Anneka Jans of Kittery, Roots Cafe of Cape Neddick, Tulsi of Kittery, DennyMike’s of York, and others. A silent auction with more than 100 items will be held throughout the night.
Goodwin is a local artist, photographer and sailor, and owner of the Drift Gallery in Kittery, Maine. She is self-employed and, with limited health insurance, finds her medical expenses piling up.
Hosted by Goodwin’s friends, the event takes place from 7 to 10 p.m. on May 20 at the Harbor Events Center, 100 Deer St., Portsmouth. Tickets are $35 in advance or $45 at the door ($60 for a VIP package). Visit www.aliveandthrive.eventbrite.com.
