Local notes: upcoming shows featuring Wiz Kahlifa, Adam Ezra, Martin England, and Women Singing Out!

UNH books Wiz Khalifa: Rapper Wiz Khalifa will spit rhymes at the University of New Hampshire’s Whittemore Center Arena on Friday, April 8, the Student Committee on Popular Entertainment announced recently. Tickets go on sale on Friday, Feb. 11.

Born Cameron Thomaz, the Pittsburg rapper’s rise to hip-hop superstardom began in 2005, when he released the mix tape “Prince of the City: Welcome to Pistolvania.” Several releases later, he signed with Atlantic Records and unveiled his 2010 hit single “Black and Yellow,” a reference to the Pittsburg Steelers. His debut album with Atlantic, titled “Rolling Papers,” is due out shortly before his UNH gig.

Khalifa will be joined in Durham by fellow Pittsburg rapper Mac Miller. The “Spring Climax” concert will be SCOPE’s first presentation at the Whittemore Center in more than a year. A promotional video for the event is posted on YouTube and Facebook, and at www.unh.edu/scope.

Tickets are $18 for UNH students or $36 for non-students, available at the MUB ticket office at 83 Main St., Durham, 603-862-2290, www.unhmub.com.

Martin England to play benefit show for new library: Local Americana singer-songwriter Martin England has announced a special show to raise funds for a new public library in South Berwick, Maine. England and his band will perform at Spring Hill in South Berwick on Saturday, March 5.

The North Berwick resident and Pondering Judd front man, who released his debut solo recording “Razed and Reconstructed” in 2010, will headline a concert also featuring his friends Courtney Brocks, Jesse Dold and Eric Ott. All four will share the stage at some point for a foot-stomping jamboree.

Proceeds from the show will go to the Friends of South Berwick Public Library’s building fund, aiding the group’s campaign to build a new, modern library. Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door, available at South Berwick Library, Bull Moose locations, Ear Craft Music in Dover or Abby Chic Florist in South Berwick. There will also be a 50/50 raffle and door prize.

The show begins at 8 p.m. on March 5 at Spring Hill, 117 Pond Road, South Berwick, Maine.

Adam Ezra Group heads to Newmarket: Boston-based acoustic rock band the Adam Ezra Group spent last summer appearing alongside acts like Bela Fleck, John Hiatt and Blues Traveler. Then they embarked on a fall tour with Rusted Root. They’re back home for the winter, though, and they’ll return to The Stone Church in Newmarket on Saturday, Feb. 12.

The group recently released a three-song EP titled “Part 1,” produced by multi-platinum, Grammy-nominated producer Aaron Johnson, best known for his work with The Fray. They released their most recent full-length album, “Views from the Root,” in 2010. The show in Newmarket comes exactly one week after the band opened for Rusted Root at Sugarloaf Mountain Resort on Feb. 5.

The show begins at 9 p.m. on Feb. 12 at The Stone Church, 5 Granite St., Newmarket, 603-292-3546. Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door.
