Percy Hill rocks it Old School

An upcoming show at The Stone Church in Newmarket will mark a joyous reunion for one of the area’s most celebrated jam bands. Original Percy Hill members Nate Wilson, Zach Wilson, Dylan Halacy, Jeremy Hill, Joe Farrell and Tom Powley will converge on their old stomping grounds on Friday, Dec. 11.

The band’s original cast united at the University of New Hampshire in 1993, helping to usher in a strong local rock scene around the UNH campus. The lineup has changed over the years, and Percy Hill performances have become a rarity. Some members have moved out of the area or launched their own projects, while a few have linked up with former Strangefolk front man Reid Genauer to form Assembly of Dust.

But locals are psyched to see these boys from Dover return for a show at the Church, where they played frequent gigs throughout the ’90s. Their funky grooves, saturated with splashes of jazz and classic rock, make for a crowd pleaser, especially among fans nostalgic for the jam craze that swept northern New England more than a decade ago.

The Old School Percy Hill show begins at 9 p.m. on Dec. 11 at The Stone Church, 5 Granite St., Newmarket, 603-292-3546. Tickets are $10.
