The Elevator Drops rise again
It’s been about a decade since Boston-based band The Elevator Drops played a live show together, but they’ll take the stage at The Middle East in Cambridge on Friday, Dec. 18. The reunion will feature front man Dave Goolkasian and his new wave pop trio in full makeup—just like the old days.
Goolkasian, a Dover resident, is best known around these parts as vocalist and bassist for now defunct local band The Texas Governor. But he also led The Elevator Drops through a solid run of success in the 1990s. The band, with its glammy alternative rock sound echoing influences from The Cure to Radiohead, toured around the world, opening for such acts as Garbage, Blur and Nada Surf. Rounded out by guitarist Garvy J. and drummer Scott Fitts, the group released several albums, including their widely acclaimed debut “Pop Bus.”
The show at The Middle East is billed as a one-time only reunion, so we can only hope the performance inspires future activity. (Rumor has it The Texas Governor has been working on some recording projects, too.) The concert will also feature Bon Savants, Count Zero, and Walter Sickert & the Army of Broken Toys, an annual participant in the Seacoast-based RPM Challenge.
The 18-plus show begins at 9 p.m. on Dec. 18. Tickets are $12. The Middle East is at 472 Massachusetts Ave., Cambridge, Mass., 617-864-3278.
