DownBeat honors The Press Room

It’s already common knowledge around these parts that The Press Room is a regional bastion of live music. According to DownBeat magazine, the Portsmouth bar and restaurant is also one of the top live jazz venues in the world.

DownBeat is a monthly music magazine with a focus on jazz and blues. The latest issue, published on Jan. 26, included a piece titled “212 Great Jazz Rooms: An International Listing of the Best Places to See and Hear Live Jazz.”

With shows booked by manager Bruce Pingree, The Press Room hosts live music seven nights a week. Among its recurrent events is the Jazz Grill on Sunday and Monday nights, jazz jams on Tuesday evening, jazz lunch on Saturday, as well as regular jazz and blues shows on Friday and Saturday nights. The club is at 77 Daniel St., Portsmouth.
