Palmer b-day bash and CD release in Portsmouth

It can be difficult to keep track of the various rock ’n’ roll projects that singer, guitarist and bassist Geoff Palmer—known in some circles as Geoff Useless—has a hand in. Palmer will celebrate his birthday with a CD release show for one of those projects, the band of Portland-based rocker Kurt Baker.

The official New Hampshire release show for Baker’s latest album, “Rockin’ for a Living,” will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 17, at The Red Door in Portsmouth. The show will also feature another one of Palmer’s bands, The Connection, which recently released a limited edition Christmas single on vinyl, along with Portland-based musician Kris Rodgers, who has a new album of his own.

Fresh off a tour of Europe, Baker’s band offers a high-energy brand of punk-infused power pop and vintage rock informed by acts ranging from The Kinks to The Ramones. The Connection features a similarly retro approach to modern rock. Palmer has also been a member of punk bands like The Guts, The Queers, The Trailer Sluts and others.

The show begins at 7 p.m. at The Red Door, 107 State St., Portsmouth, 603-373-6827. The cover charge is $6.
