New shows announced: Slaid Cleaves, Mike Gordon and All Together Now
Phish’s Mike Gordon headed to Portsmouth: Best known as bassist for the world’s most beloved post-Dead jam band, Mike Gordon is also an accomplished solo performer and filmmaker. The multi-instrumentalist will return to The Music Hall in Portsmouth on Saturday, Nov. 12.
Gordon was a founding member of Vermont-born band Phish in 1983 and has remained with the group through its sporadic breakups and reunions ever since. He’s also released three solo albums, including last year’s “Moss.”
Still a resident of Vermont, Gordon last performed at The Music Hall in December 2008. He returns during a brief East Coast tour this fall, which will also include an appearance at the Lebanon Opera House on Sunday, Nov. 13.
Tickets to the Portsmouth show are $28 to $24. They go on sale to the general public on Saturday, Oct. 8. The Music Hall is at 28 Chestnut St., Portsmouth, 603-436-2400.
All Together to benefit new Durham library: Plans are afoot to relocate Durham Public Library to a new facility in the summer of 2013, but the organization still needs to raise another $250,000 by next spring. They’ll kick off their campaign with an outdoor concert featuring Beatles tribute band All Together Now on Sunday, Oct. 9, in the Mill Plaza.
The plans call for a 10,500-square-foot, eco-friendly facility at 49 Madbury Road. The goal of the campaign is to raise $900,000 before a bond vote next March. Organizers have already raised more than $600,000 but still have a ways to go. Supporters can make a pledge or volunteer to help.
All Together Now formed in 1994 and has performed note-for-note Beatles songs around New England. Their stage shows include a large video screen that shows imagery designed to blend with the music.
The free concert begins at 3 p.m. outside the existing town library at 7 Mill Road. —MK
Slaid Cleaves comes home for a night: South Berwick native Slaid Cleaves has become a folk fixture in the rich musical haven of Austin, but he still enjoys playing an occasional show back home. Cleaves will perform at Jonathan’s in Ogunquit on Sunday, Oct. 9.
The singer-songwriter moved to Austin 20 years ago and released his breakthrough album, “Broke Down,” about 10 years ago. His most recent studio release is 2009’s “Everything You Love Will Be Taken Away,” but September brought his first ever live recording, a double-disc set called “Sorrow and Smoke: Live at the Horseshoe Lounge.”
Cleaves comes to Ogunquit after touring in Europe for a couple of months this summer.
The upcoming show begins at 8 p.m. at Jonathan’s Restaurant, 92 Bourne Lane, Ogunquit, Maine, 207-646-4777, www.jonathansrestaurant.com. Tickets are $20 in advance or $22.50 day of show.
