The Stone Church back in business

The Stone Church is back in full swing in Newmarket with craft beers, wine and plenty of live music. The venue on Zion Hill recently recovered from its latest temporary closure to reopen under new management.

Guests can celebrate the reopening during a 10-band festival on Saturday, July 30, featuring local favorites like Tan Vampires, Mmoss, Gnarlemagne and others. The music will begin outside during the day and move inside for the evening.

The Church closed in the spring after former owners Christopher McClain and Melissa Poirier opted not to renew their lease with building owner Adam Schroadter. Schroadter has since acquired a new occupancy permit and he plans to have a full bar and kitchen up and running by mid September.

The venue’s new co-managers are Abby Winzeler and Christian Pearson. Chris O’Neill, lead guitarist for The Amorphous Band, is now in charge of booking shows.

Regular weekly shows include Dave Talmage’s Tuesday night Bluegrass Jam and Dave Ogden’s open mike on Sunday nights. Wednesday nights feature a Grateful Dead celebration with DeadAhead, and lerNd hosts an evening of electronic dance music every Thursday. Various local and regional bands will perform on Friday and Saturday nights.

Although the room’s capacity has been reduced to 99 people (including staff), the interior has been repainted and has a new floor. Its summer hours are 7 p.m. to 1 a.m., Tuesday through Sunday (closed on Mondays).

The Stone Church is located at 5 Granite St. in Newmarket. For more information, call 603-292-6058 or find them on Facebook. A website is in its early stages at www.stonechurchrocks.com.
