The Seacoast air will be alive with the sound of music during several outdoor concert series this summer.
Spread out a blanket and lie back, or plop down in a lawn chair and prop your feet on a loaded cooler, or kick off your shoes and hop around barefoot in the grass. How you enjoy your outdoor concerts is up to you.
Exeter, Swasey Parkway: The Exeter Parks & Recreation Department will again present its Summer Concerts in the Park series at Swasey Parkway this year, bringing bands from around New England to the grassy, riverside lawn. The free series begins with a set from Martha’s Vineyard-based rock band Entrain on Thursday, June 23, and continues every Thursday night from 6 to 8 p.m. through July 28. Hampton, Hampton Beach: A brand new Seashell Stage is under construction at Hampton Beach and will be completed this fall. But a temporary stage covered by a tent has been erected across from C Street, and it will support live bands throughout the summer. The first concert takes place on Saturday, June 18 at 7 p.m., featuring The SoulMate Band. Other free shows will follow on a nearly nightly basis through early September. Visit www.hamptonbeach.org.
Portsmouth, Prescott Park: The Prescott Park Arts Festival has put together another impressive lineup for its summer concert series, beginning with Tom Rush on Thursday, June 23, and concluding with Arlo Guthrie on Friday, Aug. 26. Nine other shows will take place in between, all beginning at 7 p.m., with a suggested donation of $8 to $10. The Portsmouth park will also host several themed music festivals this summer, highlighting performers like Patty Larkin and Natalie MacMaster, starting with the Showcase Festival, on Saturday, July 9. Rochester, The Governor’s Inn: The stage on the front lawn of The Governor’s Inn in Rochester will see plenty of action this summer, with several weekly concert series lined up. Every Thursday night beginning June 23, Matt Gelinas and his band Hopeless Folk will entertain from 6 to 9 p.m. Acoustic Fridays on the Front Lawn begins on June 24 and continues every Friday from 7 to 10 p.m. Sunday Garden Concerts, featuring regional blues, bluegrass, folk and Americana acts, kick off on June 26 from 4 to 7 p.m. Food and beverages are available from the restaurant during all shows. Dover, Henry Law Park: The 25th anniversary season of the Cochecho Arts Festival kicks off on July 4 with a free concert from Wisconsin-based “garage pop” band Locksley at the Rotary Arts Pavilion in Dover’s Henry Law Park at 7 p.m. The festival’s Thursday Shark in the Park series starts a few days later on July 7 and continues weekly through Aug. 11 from noon to 2 p.m. The Friday Night Headliner Concert Series runs from July 8 to Aug. 12 from 7 to 9 p.m. There will also be acoustic music during the Wednesday Market Series from July 6 to Aug. 10 from noon to 2 p.m., plus children’s entertainment in the Tuesday Children’s Series from July 5 to Aug. 9 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Visit www.cochechoartsfestival.org.
Greenland, Greenland Bandstand: Greenland will revive its Summer Concert Series at the bandstand on Post Road beginning with an evening of old-time bluegrass from the Goodtime Stringband on Thursday, June 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. Other free shows will follow on July 7 and 21, from 6 to 8 p.m., and Aug. 4 and 18, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. There will also be music from noon to 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, during the Jason Hussey Memorial Race. Kittery, Memorial Field: The Kittery Recreation Department will host a handful of free Tuesday night concerts this summer at Memorial Field on Old Post Road in Kittery, Maine. The series will present Rob Oxford on July 12, The Substance on July 19, and The Restless Campbells on July 26, all from 6:30 to 8 p.m. In addition, the Jen Thayer Band will perform during Kittery Fest on Friday, Aug. 5, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Visit www.kittery.org.
–South Berwick–Central SchoolThe Hot Summer Nights Concert Series returns to South Berwick with shows every Thursday night from July 14 to Aug. 25. The first free concert of the year will feature the New England Bluegrass Band. All shows begin at 6:30 p.m. on the front lawn of the Central School on Main Street. Rye, Seacoast Science Center: On Thursday nights in July, guests can enjoy seaside music at Odiorne Point State Park in Rye. The Seacoast Science Center will again present its Music-by-the-Sea concert series, beginning with reggae-calypso band Islandside on July 7.
