Writers in the Round benefit show

The Jazzmouth Festival was postponed this year, but there are other opportunities to see live music and poetry together. The seventh annual Writers in the Round benefit show for the organization’s Star Island Creative Retreat will feature seven local artists at The Press Room in Portsmouth on Thursday, May 12.

Among the performers are host Deidre Randall, a publicist, songwriter and poet; Danielle Miraglia, a guitarist and singer with a CD due out in June; Thomas D’Amour, a folk-punk artist working on his first solo album; Scott Alarik, a songwriter, author and journalist; Mark DeCarteret, the former poet laureate of Portsmouth; Jake Mehrmann, front man of pop-rock band Tan Vampires; and Guy Capecelatro III, a prolific singer-songwriter and author of short fiction.

Proceeds from the show will help offset the cost of hiring instructors for Writers in the Round’s annual Star Island Retreat, which takes place in September. The benefit starts at 7 p.m. on May 12 at The Press Room, 77 Daniel St., Portsmouth. Tickets are $7. For more information, visit www.witrhome.org.
