Arlo Guthrie and others highlight Prescott Park concerts

Among the highlights of Prescott Park’s summer concert series are New Hampshire hero Tom Rush on June 23, blues legend Taj Mahal on July 27, and folk icon Arlo Guthrie on Aug. 26, with several other prominent acts mixed in between.

The Prescott Park Arts Festival recently unveiled its schedule for The River House Restaurant 2011 Concert Series, which includes a total of 12 outdoor shows on Wednesday evenings at the Portsmouth park. 

The series begins with Tom Rush on Thursday, June 23. It continues with traditional Quebecois band Le Vent du Nord on Wednesday, June 29; New England folk star Cheryl Wheeler on Wednesday, July 6; multiple Grammy winner Shawn Colvin on Wednesday, July 13; Grammy nominated songwriter Greg Brown on Wednesday, July 20; the Taj Mahal Trio on Wednesday, July 27; fiddle maestros Natalie MacMaster and Donnell Leahy on Saturday, July 30; string and vocal trio The Wailin’ Jennys on Wednesday, Aug. 3; Mexicana folk favorites The David Wax Museum on Wednesday, Aug. 10; singer-songwriter Jonathan Edwards on Wednesday, Aug. 17; and Austin-based swingsters Hot Club of Cowtown on Wednesday, Aug. 24. The season wraps up with Guthrie on Friday, Aug. 26.

The festival’s theatric production this year, presented in collaboration with Seacoast Repertory Theatre, is the musical “The Wizard of Oz,” which runs Thursdays through Sundays from June 24 to Aug. 21. Several other concerts, events and food festivals will be announced in coming weeks.
