Weider comes back to the beach

Famed New York-based guitarist Jim Weider is known to make at least one appearance per year at Inn on the Blues in York. He and his band Project Percolator already hit the venue in April, and they’re returning for two fall shows on Thursday and Friday, September 23 and 24, to perform songs from their 2009 album “Pulse.”

Weider’s résumé includes recordings and performances with a host of classic rock, blues and folk stars such as Bob Dylan, Keith Richards, Bob Weir, Taj Mahal, Paul Butterfield, Doctor John, Mavis Staples, Graham Parker, Los Lobos and Hot Tuna—not to mention a 15-year stretch as lead guitarist for The Band. A master of the classic telecaster and traditional blues slide guitar, he’s even had an endorsement from Fender.

Not surprisingly, Weider’s credentials enabled him to rope in cream-of-the-crop band mates for his Percolator quartet, with Julien Kasper on guitar, Steve Lucas on bass, and Rodney Holmes on drums. Holmes, who has served as drummer for Santana, Wayne Shorter, Rob Thomas and others, recently appeared in the area for a gig backing singer and pianist Mary Gatchell at the Leddy Center in Epping.

The shows begin at 8 p.m. on Sept. 23 and 24 at Inn on the Blues, 7 Ocean Ave., York, Maine, 207-351-3221. Tickets are $17 in advance or $20 at the door.
