Drenched Earth Tour arriving soon
Chris Castle and the Womack Family Band see their music as an oasis of dry land amidst a sea of noise and misinformation. Seacoast audiences can judge for themselves when the Drenched Earth Tour comes around for a series of local gigs.
Castle is a rootsy Americana singer-songwriter based in Cleveland, Ohio, who bridges the generations with influences like Hank Williams, Jackson Browne and Elliott Smith. He’s performed with Chris Hillman of The Byrds, Tommy Ramone of The Ramones, Jonathan Edwards, the Wood Brother and many others, and recorded his 2008 album at Levon Helm’s home in Woodstock, N.Y.
The Womack Family Band is a folk quintet from Norwalk, Ohio, that showcases an eclectic array of musical instruments, including piano, harmonica, mandolin, banjo and saxophone. Often compared to The Band and Wilco, they are set to release their self-titled debut album on Sept. 15.
The tour’s first Seacoast stop is a house concert on Wednesday, Sept. 22 at 8 p.m., in the home of Stone Church owner Adam Schroadter at 55 Smith Garrison Road in Newmarket. New Hampshire artist George Brown will open the $10 show, and guests are invited to bring their own food and wine for a potluck dinner.
The two bands play again on Thursday, Sept. 23 at 8 p.m., at The Blue Mermaid in Portsmouth, where they’ll join local singer-songwriter Dan Walker. A final local show takes place on Friday, Sept. 24 at 8 p.m., at the Elysium Arts Folk Club in the Lower Mill at Salmon Falls in Rollinsford. That show is $15 for adults and $5 for kids.
The bands will also perform on New Hampshire Public Radio on Sunday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. and on WSCA Portsmouth Community Radio on Friday, Sept. 24 at 3 p.m. For more information on the Drenched Earth Tour, visit www.dirtsandwich.com.
