Molenes mark last show of summer

Portsmouth-based alt-country quartet The Molenes are playing one last summer gig before they hunker down in the studio to work on their forthcoming studio album. The show takes place at The Press Room in Portsmouth on Saturday, July 31.

Formed in 2005, The Molenes consist of lead singer and guitarist Dave Hunter, backup singer and bassist Andrew Russell, pedal-steel guitarist Bruce Derr, and drummer Zach Field. Their two previous releases, 2006’s “This Car Is Big” and 2008’s “Songs of Sin and Redemption,” helped establish them as one of the Seacoast’s premier roots-rock acts.

Following their upcoming gig, The Molenes will get to work on their third full-length album, which is tentatively titled “Good Times Comin’” and is slated for release in October. The group already has CD release shows scheduled at Mojo’s in Portsmouth on Oct. 16 and Empire Dine and Dance in Portland, Maine, on Oct. 23. Another release show will take place in Boston at a date and location yet to be determined.

The upcoming show begins at 9 p.m. on July 31 at The Press Room, 77 Daniel St., Portsmouth, 603-431-5186. The door charge is $5. For more on The Molenes, visit www.themolenes.com.
