The Foyes release debut disc in Kittery
Equipped with only a three-string bass, a drum set and a microphone, local band The Foyes manage to crank out a surprisingly full sound with broiling, underground intensity. The group’s debut CD, “Street Lightning,” gives them solid standing in the Seacoast’s indie music scene.
The Foyes will celebrate their new disc with a CD release show featuring undisclosed special guests on Saturday, June 26, at Buoy in Kittery, Maine.
The band consists of Sheena Lee Charland on vocals, Sean Seuffert on bass and Sam Darrel on drums. Their debut album was released by Flyrock Records, a relatively new label that’s been helping area bands get off the ground for about a year.
Charland proves a strong lead woman on “Street Lightning,” her aggressive vocals marked by deep, tremulous crooning and fiery shouts. Her confident voice serves as a sturdy centerpiece to the band’s lo-fi sound, with Seuffert and Darrel stirring up an enveloping brew of sonic textures. There’s a paranoid darkness about their style, but also a surging drive that’s sure to translate into energetic live material.
The show begins at 9 p.m. at Buoy, 2 Government St., Kittery, Maine. The door charge is $5. For more on The Foyes, visit www.flyrockrecords.com.
