Local authors night at RiverRun
| Literary - general |
Chuck Galle and Wayne W. Whicher will read from their books on Local Authors Night at RiverRun Bookstore on Monday, Sept. 6, starting at 7 p.m.
Galle is the author of “Stories I Never Told My Daughter,” a humorous but dark autobiographical look at an adventuresome 13 years of a scamp, artist, junkie, and seeker of truth with social mobility. It was staged at The Players’ Ring in Portsmouth in August.
The author left his druggie, criminal past behind in 1971 and moved up in the construction world, then on to the rehabilitation field. Before long, he was an accountant for Federal Funds for Drug Abuse at the DMH in Boston, and joined System Development Corporation in 1975 to develop training programs at the National Drug Abuse Training Center. He eventually became a designer and builder of databases with the Unisys Corporation. He retired in 1993 to care for his declining parents, and since their deaths has devoted the rest of his life to theater, writing, and non-professional rehabilitation activities.
Whicher grew up in Exeter and has finally completed one of the items on his list of things to do during his lifetime: publish a novel. He now lives in Dover with his wife Amy, and they are expecting their first child.
“Sunset over the Hermes” is a young adult mystery novel set in Bermuda. The main character, Detective Scott Mathias, finds himself trying to solve a puzzle that pulls him from one end of the island to the other. As the novel unfolds, Mathias is also drawn into a romantic relationship that he tries to explore while attempting to keep his personal and professional lives separate. Dangerously, the two lives become intertwined.
