Farmers and fishermen wanted

Some Seacoast residents put off thinking about winter as long as possible, but not the folks at Seacoast Eat Local. They’re already gearing up for another season of winter farmers’ markets, and they’re looking for farmers and fishermen to take part.

The winter markets will take place on select Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., alternating between the Wentworth Greenhouses in Rollinsford and Exeter High School. A total of 11 markets have been scheduled at those locations between November and April, with the first occurring at the Wentworth Greenhouses on Nov. 20. Other communities will host their own winter markets on select dates in Newmarket and Rye.

The goal of the markets is to connect consumers with sources of locally grown food. Farmers and fishermen interested in offering their products can request a Seacoast Eat Local application packet from Kate Donald at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . The application deadline is Wednesday, Sept. 15.

The 2010-2011 markets will also feature certain prepared food vendors who use locally produced ingredients. People can recommend potential food vendors by visiting www.seacoasteatlocal.org, clicking on the Winter Farmers’ Market emblem and selecting “Form to suggest a vendor.”
