the plot: Biker gang The Devil’s Advocates has ventured out to the desert for rest and relaxation—terrorizing fellow motorists, beating up squares and getting drunk in the great outdoors. It’s all fun and games until the gang accidentally stumbles on to a secluded Satanic church.

There’s a scene in Bob Clark’s “Black Christmas” where sorority house
bad-girl Barb (played by Margot Kidder), in the midst of talking to a
clueless cop about her missing housemate, slips in a subtle joke about
oral sex. The cop doesn’t get it, but Barb’s friends, and the audience,
do. It’s a moment that only Clark could convincingly pull off: a spot
of humor that alleviates, just for a minute, a sense of building
suspense. Clark was an inveterate collector of stories, and most of his
films are full of moments like this that seem culled from his and
others’ funny anecdotes and experiences, as if he’s whispering to the
audience, “Hey, did you ever hear the one about …?”

the plot: Dr. Norman Boyle (Malco), an up-and-coming professor at a
local university, moves his family out of Boston and into a secluded
old house in the country. He’s eager to continue a deceased colleague’s
research into the mysterious Dr. Freudstein, a turn-of-the-century
physician who was rumored to have conducted twisted medical experiments
on his patients. The move doesn’t sit well with Norman’s wife, Lucy
(MacColl), or his son, Bob (Frezza). Almost immediately, Bob starts
hanging out with a strange little girl who lives nearby. During their
playdates, she warns Bob that certain doom awaits him in the house.

the plot: New York City is thrown into a panic when a man
wearing a police uniform begins murdering innocent citizens. Officer
Jack Forrest’s (Campbell) wife turns up dead, and Forrest is blamed for
the murders. But Detective Frank McCrae (Atkins) believes
differently—McCrae knows that Forrest is having an affair with Officer
Theresa Mallory (Landon) and was with Mallory at the time of the
killings.
