bring local history to life onstage

Pontine Theatre’s co-directors, Greg Gathers and Marguerite Mathews, will offer a six-week workshop to bring to life the history of Portsmouth’s Wentworth Gardner House and the beginning of the Colonial Revival movement in the Greater Seacoast area. The project will culminate in community performances on Saturday, June 23, at the West End Studio Theatre, and Sunday, June 24, on the grounds of the Wentworth Gardner House. Workshops will be held Tuesdays, May 15 to June 19, from 5:45 to 7:15 p.m. at West End Studio Theatre, 959 Islington St., Portsmouth. All adult community members are welcome, no experience necessary. Teens are welcome if accompanied by an adult. Tuition is $25. Hackmatack Summer Youth Theatre to present ‘Snow White’

This summer, the Children’s Theatre Camp at Hackmatack Playhouse will present “Snow White” as part of a comprehensive learning experience for participants. Camp director Josie Perkins-Roberts will work with children ages 7 to 13 to foster an appreciation for theater arts and gaining confidence while having fun learning the four main disciplines of performance: stage movement, acting, singing and dancing. In addition, students will design backdrops for the set, create their own makeup for the various characters they create, and work on costume design. The final outcome of their efforts will be performed on Hackmatack’s main stage for six performances.

Assisting Perkins-Roberts with music direction is Kennebunk music teacher Karen Matthews, who will lead the campers musically and assist in teaching vocal techniques. Also assisting is a cadre of summer theatre assistants, interns, apprentices and technicians who work in the theatrical, musical or educational fields.

Hackmatack Children’s Summer Theatre Camp will run weekdays from June 25 to Aug. 10, 9 a.m. to noon, rain or shine.  For more information, call 207-698-1807 or visit www.hackmatackplayhouse.com.
