Each summer, volunteers armed with nets, boots and binoculars collect information from local salt marshes to help scientists and managers track the progress of restoration projects and make management decisions.

The New Hampshire Coastal Program at the Department of Environmental Services seeks volunteers for 2006. This year, the program will collect fish, vegetation and salinity data on two marshes: Fairhill Marsh and Awcomin Marsh, both in Rye. Time commitment for volunteering is flexible.

Volunteer training takes place at the Urban Forestry Center in Portsmouth on Saturday, June 24, from 2 to 6 p.m. or Monday and Tuesday, June 26 and 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. both nights.
