Ben Perry’s Dream Ride is set to take off on Saturday, June 21, at the Kittery Trading Post’s X-Sports in Kittery, Maine.
Ben Perry was a physical education and health teacher at Traip Academy. He lost his two-year battle with Familial Adenomatous Polyposis disease in January, at the age of 32. During his illness, he maintained a positive attitude and was a role model of steadiness in the face of adversity. His dream was to have a climbing wall built in the gym at Traip Academy, and the Dream Ride intends to raise the funds to make it happen.
The Dream Ride is a bicycling event for the whole family and riders of all abilities. Activities include a bike rodeo for younger children, three simultaneous bike rides on the roads of Kittery, Eliot and York, and a family bike parade. Face painting and bicycle decorations will be available for the bike parade. There will also be music, food, and a raffle. Raffle tickets will be for sale during the event.
It begins at KTP X-Sports on Route 1 at 9 a.m. and will end there around noon. Registration that day begins at 8 a.m., but participants are encouraged to register online at www.active.com.
Registration is $10 for ages 17 and under and $20 for adults. Riders can also register in person at the Kittery Recreation Department office.
The road rides vary in distance. Approximate event start times are 9 a.m. for the 30-mile ride, 9:30 a.m. for the 15-mile ride, and 9:45 a.m. for the 8-mile ride. The event will culminate with a 1.7-mile Community Bike Parade at approximately 11:30 a.m. Participants are encouraged to ride in the parade.
