While NASA's rover Opportunity found evidence of water shortly after landing, the rover Spirit, a half a world away, has only recently found its own signs of Mars' watery history.

In examining the rock named Clovis, Spirit has found strong evidence of past water at Gusev crater.

"We have evidence that interaction with liquid water changed the composition of this rock," said Dr. Steve Squyres in a recent NASA press release. "This is different from the rocks out on the plain, where we saw coatings and veins apparently due to effects of a small amount of water. Here, we have a more thorough, deeper alteration, suggesting much more water."

>new moons

Cassini has turned up two tiny new moons orbiting Saturn. They are each about two miles wide and have, for the moment, the adorable names S/2004 S1 and S/2004 S2.

>the Falcon will fly

The private company SpaceX will soon launch its Falcon 1 rocket: it will undergo some launchpad testing at Vandendurg Air Force Base in September, in preparation for a possible maiden voyage in November.

Elon Musk, the chairman and CEO of SpaceX, has funded the rocket's development largely through the sale of his previous company, Paypal.
