Katie Blackden wants everyone to wear their convictions on their sleeve this week. The New Durham teenager and a friend have started a small grassroots campaign for "Wear Your Convictions on Your Sleeve Day." On Friday, Feb. 18, participants are urged to don a white armband and state their case for peace. "We decided we wanted to make a difference and whatnot and were brainstorming ideas for protests," she said in an e-mail. They came up with a take-off on punk band Anti-Flag's 2003 "Wear Your Convictions on Your Sleeve Day." How do you join in? Wear a white armband "to symbolize and encourage peace," Blackden said. The armband can sport a message, but she asks that people keep it simple and clean. Blackden and her friend have been spreading the word on Internet message boards and activist Web sites like Zmag.org. "There are people all over the world and even a couple kids in Germany and Canada doing it," she said. The two also want participants to send them photos of the day.
