This week, Doris "Granny D" Haddock, Judd Gregg's Democratic challenger for U.S. Senate, kicks off a 40-day walk through southeastern New Hampshire from Market Square in Portsmouth at 8 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 12. The 94-year-old is well known for her previous walk across the country to attract attention to campaign finance reform. She's less well known for her oratory, which she practiced before a receptive crowd at the Strafford County Democratic picnic on Sunday, Aug. 8 in Durham, though word is likely to spread as she spends time campaigning here in New Hampshire on topics such as balanced budgets, reasonable taxes, health care, local job-building and the Bill of Rights. Joe Trippi, formerly Howard Dean's campaign manager, has begun volunteering as her principal campaign strategist. Haddock plans to walk five miles each morning of her journey, then spend the rest of the day campaigning. On Friday, she'll be speaking in Exeter. |
