A group of non-profits is offering adolescent girls a forum to discuss healthy relationships, handling conflict and managing stress, “Let’s Stop the Drama and Get Real: A Gathering for Girls,” will be held Saturday, Nov. 4, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the University of New Hampshire in Durham.
“We hope that the girls who attend will learn about diverse perspectives, be motivated by the workshop topics and presenters, and discover something new about themselves in the process,” says Lauren Wool, director of community organizing for United Way of the Greater Seacoast.
The forum is open to all girls in grades 6 through 8, in Strafford County, Eastern Rockingham County, and Kittery and Eliot, Maine. The cost to attend is $15, and scholarships are available. To learn more about the workshops and to register, go to www.uwgs.org or call Lynn Tolfree at 603-679-5616.
The event is organized by the Greater Seacoast Girls Initiative, a coalition working to increase awareness and educational opportunities relevant to issues young girls face. GSGI is made up of the following organizations: A Safe Place, Community Resource Network, Girl Scouts of Swift Water Council, Girl’s Inc. of NH, New Heights, New Outlook Teen Center, Portsmouth Middle School, Seacoast Mental Health Center, Seacoast Outright, Sexual Assault Support Services, UNH Center on Adolescence, UNH Cooperative Extension, and United Way of the Greater Seacoast.
