After showing films for 78 years, the York Beach Cinema met its fate at the hands of demolition crews on Tuesday, Oct. 31. The Union Bluff Hotel will be building a function room on the site, according to The York Weekly. The paper reports that the movie house’s last film was “Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Dead Man’s Chest” on Sept. 2. Since then, people have been buying items from the theater, “ranging from signs, old doors and light fixtures to rows of seats and old movie magazines from the 1950s.”
