Kurt’s Lunchbox, the popular cheesy fry vendor located outside of Mills Hall, is closing an hour earlier this semester, an unwelcome change to its many patrons.
“It says 2 a.m. on the permit and the police have been letting me stay open until 3 a.m.,” said Kurt, owner of the Lunchbox. He says the UNH Police Department has been very supportive and understanding of his hours, but have had to start enforcing the earlier closing time.
UNH Deputy Police Chief Paul Dean had been hearing complaints of noise and even fighting from Mills residents. However, Dean is still a fan of Kurt and the food he provides each weekend. “I think it’s a great service,” he said.
Kurt’s has seen very few changes during his seven years on campus. He has tight competition from the local pizza joints, but remains unmatched for his fries. Customers consider themselves lucky if there is no line and more typically anticipate at least a 30-minute wait.
