Dan Walker and Breakfast Song book CD release shows

A couple of local acts will unveil brand new albums with CD release shows this weekend, introducing home-cooked tunes to Seacoast listeners. Rootsy Americana singer-songwriter Dan Walker will play songs from his new CD “Beautiful” at the Barley Pub in Dover on Friday, May 15.

Portsmouth-based duo Breakfast Song will reveal its own new disc, “Ombligo Con Ombligo,” at The Red Door in Portsmouth on Monday, May 18.
Based in Rochester, Dan Walker is a guitarist and band leader with a commanding voice steeped in the Blue Ridge Mountain music of his native Indiana. “Beautiful,” his third album, advances his alt-country songwriting with smooth musicianship from band mates Luke Crawley on bass, Roy Wallace on drums and Charlie Strater on lead guitar and harmonica. Recording in New Hampshire in July 2008, Walker drew from his own life experiences on each of the 12 original songs, some lighthearted and peppy, others wistful and emotional.

The free show on May 15 begins at 7 p.m. at the Barley Pub, 328 Central Ave., Dover, 603-742-4226. Walker also has upcoming gigs in the area at York Harbor Inn in York, Maine, on May 30, Flat Bread in Portsmouth on June 8, and The Press Room in Portsmouth on June 11.
Breakfast Song will perform at The Red Door on Monday as part of the Hush Hush Sweet Harlot music series. Also playing that night are Midwest Dilemma and Brad Hoshaw & the Seven Deadlies, both of Omaha, Neb.

Breakfast Song is a collaboration between boyfriend-girlfriend team Seth Gooby and Isis Alis. The pair utilize acoustic guitar, ukulele and synthesizer, along with endearing vocals, to produce a poppy folk sound. The new recording is the band’s second full-length album and began as yet another RPM Challenge project.

Brad Hoshaw and Midwest Dilemma are both folk-Americana acts touring the nation together through May. Dilemma’s debut disc “Timelines & Tragedies” recently received a nomination for album of the year. The two bands will also perform on Portsmouth Community Radio 106.1 WSCA at 3:30 p.m. on May 18. Breakfast Song is a fairly regular performer in the Hush Hush series and recently participated in its five-year anniversary show on April 20. The show on Monday begins at 8 p.m. at The Red Door, 107 State St., Portsmouth, 603-373-6827. Donations of $5 will be collected at the door.
