Dover is getting its own version of a reality makeover, thanks to all the new restaurants and music venues popping up this year.

The latest addition is The Brick House at 2 Orchard St., which celebrates its grand opening this weekend, Sept. 3-5, with local favorites Pondering Judd on Friday night and the Mondaymen on Saturday night, and three bands (as yet unannounced) on Monday and Tuesday night.

It's a first-time venture for co-owners Chris Otash and Jeff Halldorson, who met when Halldorson was renovating Otash's house. They're diving in head first-along with the help of a bar manager, kitchen manager and booking agent-hoping to offer an experience similar to what the Press Room offers in Portsmouth.

The venue seats 225, with a restaurant downstairs and a bar upstairs, says Otash. Both will be open seven nights a week. The planned schedule is as follows: Monday is local record label night; Tuesday is open mike; Wednesday is WHEB's Local Licks, which has moved from The Muddy River in Portsmouth; Thursday is "tribute and cover band" night; Friday and Saturday will feature bands from around the area and Boston; and Sunday will be for DJs.

"We want variety every week, so whether someone goes out to hear a jazz three-piece or a rock band, they'll think of us. We're trying to complement the restaurants in town," Otash says.

The Brick House can be reached at 603-749-3838.
