This month’s open mike poetry night at Water Street Bookstore in Exeter features local poets Pat Parnell and Harvey Shepard on Wednesday, Feb. 2, at 6:30 p.m.

Parnell is a poet, teacher and journalist. The Stratham resident is a Professor Emerita at Chester College of New England and is publicity chair of the Seacoast Writers Association. She has published two books, “Snake Woman and Other Explorations: Finding the Female in Divinity” and “Talking with Birches: Poems of Family and Everyday Life.” A third collection is on the way, called “Masks and Mirrors.” Parnell’s work has also appeared in numerous magazines and anthologies.

Harvey Shepard is a retired University of New Hampshire physics professor and is active with the Portsmouth Poet Laureate Program. His work has appeared in numerous anthologies and online journals.

After the featured readers, the floor opens to guests. Poets can bring one or two poems to share, or just come to listen. Open mike poetry nights are on the second Wednesday of every month at Water Street Bookstore, 125 Water St., Exeter, 603-778-9731.
