Haiku hasn’t changed since the first time you discovered it, but you probably have. Learn more about the form and yourself in a workshop led by Tom D’Evelyn and Madeleine Findlay of Single Island Press at the Portsmouth Public Library, 175 Parrott Ave. This program runs for three consecutive Thursday evenings, on April 5, 12 and 19, from 7 to 8:45 p.m.

Students will learn the relevant formal questions to ask while interpreting a haiku and consider a wide range of haiku—from the Japanese master Basho down to American haiku written in our time. Students will be encouraged to write haiku and present them in class, though sharing is not required.
No pre-registration is required but participants are encouraged to attend all three sessions.
For more information, call the library at 603-427-1540 or visit www.cityofportsmouth.com/library. Single Island Press online at www.haikumuse.com.
