Pearson’s Candy Co., St. Paul, Minnesota
We were excited about Pearson’s Milk Chocolate Vanilla Bun. Would it be shaped like a cinnamon bun? What does milk chocolate vanilla taste like? Does the manufacturer make other pastry-shaped candy bars? How did they think of such a thing?
The answer to all of these questions is “no.”
Pearson’s Milk Chocolate Vanilla Bun is not a “bun” so much as a “plop” or “patty.” It’s a blob of chocolate, peanuts and “creme,” shapeless and lumpy—which is fine, a turtle is really just a plop too. But as a first time eater, we felts misled by the wrapper of the Bun.
The peanuts were plentiful, the vanilla creme was sugary, and the candy on the whole was entirely palatable—but it wasn‘t a bun.
Maybe they don’t have pastries in Minnesota, so they don’t have anything to compare it to. A picture on the wrapper of the actual candy would have helped clue us in, but then, a picture wouldn’t exactly help sell candy bars.
