Dover just boosted its menu of local restaurants with the opening of the Silver Moon Crêperie, the first of its kind in New Hampshire. The eatery is adjacent to the Strand Theatre on Third Street (at the former location of Jake’s City Kitchen).

The restaurant features homemade soup, fresh juice, Cuban-style panini sandwiches and, of course, the wafer-thin French pancakes known as crêpes. Owners Chris and Theresa Therrien serve them either sweet (featuring jam, Nutella, honey, berries, etc.) or savory (think chicken, ham, Swiss cheese, mushrooms, pesto, etc.).

“This is our first restaurant we’ve owned. My wife has been in corporate accounting for Dunkin Donuts, and I’ve been in the restaurant industry for over 26 years,” says Chris. “I’ve opened restaurants with a few other people in New York and Providence, but it’s never been my own.” The tradition of crêpes hails from the northwest region of France called Brittany. The Therriens had enjoyed a crêperie they visited in Quebec City, and thought the fare offered a menu they could enjoy making and serving together, without hiring a large staff. “Plus, making crêpes is actually quite fun, once you get the knack,” Chris says.

They’ve added a touch of New England with batter made from a blend of all-purpose flour from King Arthur Flour in Vermont and buckwheat flour that’s freshly ground for them at the Littleton Grist Mill, which Chris says gives the crêpes a velvety texture they couldn’t achieve without it.

Silver Moon, at 20 Third St., offers breakfast, lunch and dinner, Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. For more information, call 603-742-6150 or see their full menu online at www.silvermooncreperie.com.
