celebrating restaurant week in the Garrison City

A dozen restaurants are participating in Dover Dines ’09 Restaurant Week through June 7 by offering three-course prix fixe dinners for $21.95 per person.

This is the first time such an event has been held in Dover, but similar offerings have proven successful in Portsmouth. Michael Provo, executive director of Dover Main Street, said he hopes it will become an annual event. Main Street partnered with the Greater Dover Chamber of Commerce to organize Restaurant Week, along with the local restaurants and sponsors.

“Dover has over 35 restaurants in downtown alone,” Provo said. “A lot of people are just not aware and don’t think of Dover as a place to go to eat.”

He said the week-long event is a great time to try a different eatery, and it’s also a great opportunity for restaurants to show off their unique menus. It will kick off the summer season and the opening of decks with outdoor seating, he added.

“There are a variety of tastes to choose from,” Provo said. Asia offers Chinese food and Stephano’s has Italian, Cartelli’s has sushi and La Festa has pizza, Central Wave has pub food and the Orchard Street Chop Shop has steak, for examples. Durham’s Three Chimneys Inn also joined Dover Dines.

The prix fixe menu choices at Blue Latitudes for the first course are zucchini sticks, Caesar salad or mussels; for the second course are fish and chips, chicken piccata or beef burgundy; and for the third, cheesecake or spring rolls.  
Dinner is $21.95 and a two-course lunch is $12.95, where available. This does not include tax, gratuity or beverages. Reservations are recommended; mention Dover Dines when calling. More information is available at www.weshopdover.com.
