Celebrity chefs and master wine makers will return to the Wentworth by the Sea Hotel for the 2007 Winter Wine Festival from Jan. 13 to Feb. 24.  Veuve Clicquot, St. Francis, Casa LaPostolle, Foppiano, Kenwood, Sebastiani, Marchesi di Barolo, Kendall-Jackson, Louis Martini, Pedroncelli and Sakonnet are just some of the winemakers attending the third annual six-week food and wine event, according to a press release from the hotel. Highlights include grand vintner’s dinners, tasting seminars, champagne brunches, rare vertical tastings, dueling chefs, Riedel glass demos, an art show reception and local and international music.

Chefs visiting the historic hotel during the festival include Mary Dumont, the executive chef at the Dunaway Restaurant in Portsmouth. Dumont was named by Food and Wine Magazine as one of America’s 10 best new chefs of 2006 and sister of the Wentworth’s award-winning chef Dan Dumont; Mark Gaier and Clark Frasier of Arrows Restaurant in Ogunquit, Maine, named one of 50 best restaurants in the country by Gourmet Magazine; Justin Wangler, chef at Kendall-Jackson Winery in Sonoma; and Chris Kozlowski of the Orchard Street Chop Shop in Dover.

One of the big events will be a four-course dinner prepared by chefs from New England’s last four remaining “Grand Dame” hotels—the Balsams, Mount Washington, Mountain View Grand and the Wentworth by the Sea—on Feb. 16. The dinner will be paired to the wines of California winemaker and New England native Peter Merriam, with music from Ben Baldwin and the Big Note. The program also notes a Bubbles and Jazz Sunday Brunch series, the price of which will include complimentary Piper-Heidsieck Champagne during the month of January and Domaine Chandon Riche during the month of February; and Flamenco dancing and guitar by Juanito Pascual to accompany the Spanish Wine, Tapas and Flamenco event on Jan. 20.Flights Nights will be featured every Monday through Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. with featured flights of wine, winemakers and noted wine authorities, along with complimentary hors d’ouevres and entertainment in the Roosevelt Lounge. The full calendar of events can be viewed online at

www.winterwinefestival.com. Reservations can also be made online or by calling 603-422-7322.
