upgrade at the Ioka
Exeter’s independent Ioka theater recently announced the transformation of its main hall to a Dolby system.

“Getting the sound right in this unique and historical room has been a time-consuming and expensive process but the results are definitely becoming apparent,” wrote owner Roger Detzler in a recent e-mail. “Change is a slow process at the Ioka, and in some way we are always a work in progress, as we strive to modernize yet keep our charm.”

all the state’s a soundstage
The New Hampshire Film and Television Office recently released a list of productions that have taken place in New Hampshire through the summer. They include the documentaries “Imagine Nation” (April and May), “Voyages of Discovery” (May), and “Out of Balance: ExxonMobil’s Impact on Global Warming” (July). They also include the independent feature film “Rise of the Flatline” (June) and an episode of “Wife Swap” (July), a TV reality series.

N.H. filmmaker Bill Millios of Back Lot Films, creator of “Dangerous Crosswinds” and “Old Man Dogs,” is currently in pre-production for his next independent feature, a black comedy called “Death and Glory,” which he plans to film throughout New Hampshire this fall and release in October 2007.

tradeshow returns to NHFX
The tradeshow portion of the NH Film Expo has returned after a one-year hiatus. It will be held during the sixth annual event on Oct. 13 and 14 at the Connie Bean Center, Daniel Street, Portsmouth, and will feature vendors and firms from around the region working in film and television. The tradeshow will also feature breakout sessions and mini-workshops. NH Film Industry Summit
The New Hampshire Film and Television Office kicks off what’s hoped to become an annual tradition with the inaugural Film Industry Summit on Wednesday, Sept. 20, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the State Library in Concord. The office holds filmmaker roundtables throughout the year in various communities, but this is the first statewide gathering to bring together industry professionals for an update on industry news, a keynote presentation and networking opportunities.
