Beginning Watercolor Painting class at KAA

Kittery Art Association will offer a Beginning Watercolor Painting class for adults and children, ages 9 and older accompanied by an adult, on Saturday, May 12, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Kittery Art Association Gallery, 8 Coleman Lane, Kittery Point, Maine. Marlane Bottino will present five watercolor techniques, including “wet-in-wet,” salt, and wax resist painting. Paint flowers and landscapes on paper suitable for a set of handmade greeting cards. The fee is $10 per person, and all supplies will be provided. Pre-registration recommended, at 207-451-9384 or online at www.kitteryartassociation.org.

2008 ‘Artists of the Seacoast’

Families First Health and Support Center recently announced which local artists will be featured in its 2008 “Artists of the Seacoast” calendar, the 13th calendar the nonprofit community health center has produced as a fundraiser.
Dover artist Jim Reagan won the cover spot for “Salt,” a watercolor depicting a seaside neighborhood.

Representing January through December will be works by Darlene Furbush Ouellett of Portsmouth, Barbara Heintz of York Harbor, Mary Jane Solomon of Kensington, Beverly Whitehouse of Exeter, Judith Custer of Dover, Nancy Nelson of Durham, Linda Franklin of York, Erik Johnson of Newmarket, Mary Ann Kennedy of Kennebunk, Michele Godbois of Deerfield, Dwight Wilder of Somersworth and Elizabeth Palmer of Stratham.

Works by these and 86 other local artists are on display in the “Artists of the Seacoast” exhibit at The Children’s Museum of Portsmouth through May 13.

open studios in Exeter

Dale Atkins, owner of Painting Restoration and Frame Repair, will offer an open house Friday and Saturday, May 4 and 5. Those two days, she is offering free consultations for art in need of repair, along with process explanations about maintenance and restoration. Atkins’s open studio coincides with the Spring Open Houses of Lily Designs Beading Studio and Salmon House Art Studio, all at the intersection of Front and Union streets in Exeter.

The hours of the open studios are Friday, 1 to 7 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
